Underwater concrete maintenance requires equipment selected for the intended depth, material and work method. Bridge, dam and marine infrastructure projects place additional constraints on access, visibility, tool handling and the protection of structures that remain in service.
Tooling selection forms part of the commercial diving contractor's engineered work plan. A surface tool should not be assumed suitable for submerged operation because it is powered by compressed air.
Confirm equipment suitability first
Obtain the equipment manufacturer's confirmation of suitability for the intended underwater use and operating conditions. Review depth, supply arrangements, lubrication, corrosion exposure, controls and maintenance requirements with the responsible contractor.
Generic pneumatic equipment listings do not establish underwater approval. The specific machine and its complete operating arrangement require review before procurement.
Specify points and chisels around the removal task
- Moil points: concentrated contact for localized breaking where the approved work method permits.
- Flat chisels: a defined working edge for directional removal and repair preparation.
- Wider scaling profiles: broader contact for suitable surface-removal tasks.
- Specialized ends: geometry developed around access and the material being removed.
The selected profile must match the hammer interface and the required control at the work surface. Work near reinforcement, embedded services or retained structural material requires the project's specified removal method.
Drilling and core tooling
For drilled holes, define diameter, depth, orientation, substrate and any reinforcement. Rotary-percussive drilling and diamond core drilling use different equipment and tooling systems; select the method against the required hole and structural constraints.
For core drilling, the project specification should address rig mounting, drilling reactions, bit and barrel configuration, flushing and cuttings management. Confirm the full equipment arrangement with the manufacturer and diving contractor. Submersion alone does not establish adequate bit cooling or flushing.
Information for technical review
Provide the equipment model and approved configuration, working depth, freshwater or marine conditions, material, access dimensions, tool interface and required working profile. Include drawings and the removal or drilling specification where available.
Availability of a particular underwater equipment package, diamond tooling or service must be confirmed for the project. It should not be inferred from general industrial supply capabilities.
Madido's role
Madido manufactures industrial steel points and chisels and supplies pneumatic equipment, parts and service support. For a proposed underwater application, Madido reviews the tooling request within that scope; equipment suitability and dive execution remain subject to confirmation by the responsible specialists.
Discuss the tooling specification at sales@madido.com or (514) 737-2400. Include the equipment manufacturer's underwater-use requirements with your request.
